چکیده

Finite amplitude thermal convection is studied in a horizontal layer of infinite Prandtl number fluid with a variable gravity. For the present study, gravity is restricted to vary quadratically with respect to the vertical variable. A perturbation technique based on a small parameter, which is a measure of the ratio of the vertical to horizontal dimensions of the convective cells, is employed to determine the finite amplitude steady solutions. These solutions are represented in terms of convective modes whose amplitudes can be either small or of order unity. Stability of these solutions is investigated with respect to three dimensional disturbances. A variable gravity function introduces two non-dimensional parameters. For certain range of values of these two parameters, double or triple cellular structure in the vertical direction can be realized. Hexagonal patterns are preferred for sufficiently small amplitude of convection, while square patterns can become dominant for larger values of the convective amplitude. Variable gravity can also affect significantly the wavelength of the cellular pattern and the onset condition of the convective motion. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification. The Density-Driven Nanofluid Convection in an Anisotropic Porous Medium Layer with Rotation and Variable Gravity Field: A Numerical Investigation

In this study, a numerical examination of the significance of rotation and changeable gravitational field on the start of nanofluid convective movement in an anisotropic porous medium layer is shown. A model that accounts for the impact of Brownian diffusion and thermophoresis is used for nanofluid, while Darcy’s law is taken for the porous medium. The porous layer is subjected to uniform rotat...

Dielectrophoretic Rayleigh-Bénard convection under microgravity conditions.

Thermal convection in a dielectric fluid layer between two parallel plates subjected to an alternating electric field and a temperature gradient is investigated under microgravity conditions. A thermoelectric coupling resulting from the thermal variation of the electric permittivity of the fluid produces the dielectrophoretic (DEP) body force, which can be regarded as thermal buoyancy due to an...

Finite integration method with RBFs for solving time-fractional convection-diffusion equation with variable coefficients

In this paper, a modification of finite integration method (FIM) is combined with the radial basis function (RBF) method to solve a time-fractional convection-diffusion equation with variable coefficients. The FIM transforms partial differential equations into integral equations and this creates some constants of integration. Unlike the usual FIM, the proposed method computes constants of integ...
